A group of people were shot at and one was killed by a gunman who opened fire from inside a passing vehicle in Brooklyn before that speeding car crashed nearby, authorities say.
The unusual string of events unfolded just before 3 a.m. Tuesday on Union Street in Crown Heights, according to the NYPD. Thirty-three-year-old Argenis Cabrera who was standing with the group was shot in the chest but was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Police say a black vehicle drove by the group, opened fire and sped off. The car then smashed into another vehicle stopped at a red light at the corner of Union Street and Schenectady Avenue. The two men in the car got out and ran off, last seen sprinting north.
Police said one of the suspects was wearing all black and the second was in a gray shirt. No arrests have been made and investigation is ongoing.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Cabrera was the intended target. Witnesses are urged to call Crime Stoppers with tips.
