Dole Recalling Spinach Due to Salmonella Risk

Dole is recalling bags of spinach because of a possible salmonella risk.

The company says the recall applies to bags of spinach coded A27409B & A27409A, with an “Enjoy By” date of Oct. 15 and UPC 7143000976. The product code and Enjoy By date are in the upper right-hand corner of the package; the UPC code is on the back of the package, below the bar code.

Customers who bought these products should throw them away.

The salads were distributed in 13 U.S. states:

  • Connecticut
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Wisconsin

No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall. The precautionary recall was issued due to what the company says is an isolated case in which a random sample of Dole spinach tested positive for salmonella.

Salmonella causes nausea, diarrhea, vomiting or abnormal pain. It primarily impacts young children, frail and elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill.

Dole baby spinach and other salads are not included in the recall.
