Animal-welfare officials say a dog that was rescued from a commercial trash bin on Long Island last month is now available for adoption.
The fluffy female pooch was found matted and dirty in a trash bin at a West Islip gas station on Christmas Eve.
An Islip Town animal shelter employee was arrested on animal-cruelty charges for allegedly abandoning her there.
Islip Town Councilman Anthony Senft, Jr. and Suffolk County SPCA officials announced Wednesday that applications are available to adopt the dog.
They have named her Miracle.
Applications for adoption must be filled out in person at the shelter in Bay Shore. They will be accepted Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between noon and 2 p.m.
