Pup Saved From Asia Meat Market Rescued Again in NYC During Snowstorm

The shelter says Pandy came to NYC after being rescued from the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand

A pup that was once rescued from Thailand's illegal dog meat trade had to be saved a second time after it ran away from its handler in Manhattan during the middle of this week's snowstorm, the shelter says.

Tiffany Lacey, executive director of the Animal Haven in SoHo, says Pandy the 4-year-old mixed-breed was being walked Tuesday afternoon when she got spooked and bolted.

Volunteers at the rescue shelter gave chase but Pandy got away. The dog ran about 40 blocks to the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, where she was in danger of being hit by traffic. She was spotted by police officers, who grabbed the leash still attached to her collar.

The dog's microchip enabled authorities to return Pandy to the shelter.

The group said on Facebook Pandy's paws were a bit beat up from her journey, so staff was giving her some extra love, and she seemed to need some sleep. Otherwise, the adorable pup appeared to be OK.

"As we said before, she is a true miracle dog," the shelter wrote. "We'd all be pretty tired too after sprinting over 40 blocks in the snow."
