Dog in Mysterious Central Park Death Was Not Shot: Sources

A dog mysteriously died while on a walk with its owner in Central Park Tuesday, police said.

The dog’s owner, a 65-year-old man, was walking his pet near West 110th Street and 8th Avenue around 11 p.m. when the canine suddenly stumbled and fell down a hill, the NYPD said.

The owner went to help the dog and said he saw one hole on the top of its head and another under its eye, police said. The owner believed the dog had been shot.

Authorities said no evidence of a handgun or bullets were found. Sources familiar with the investigation say there was no entry or exit wound on the dog and it appears that the animal had not been shot. The holes the owner saw apparently were cuts, the sources said.

Police are investigating what may have caused the wounds.

The dog wasn’t on a leash when it was injured.
