Doctor Admits Suicide Pact With Wife

Dr. Rajasekar Sham is expected to receive five years probation

A retired Long Island radiologist has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges after admitting in court that he killed his terminally ill wife and intended to take his own life in a failed suicide pact.

Dr. Rajasekar Sham is expected to receive five years probation and will undergo psychological counseling after he is sentenced on Feb. 6.

Sham, who is 68, admitted in court Tuesday that he and his wife agreed to the suicide pact and settled their financial affairs.

Their attorney contacted police on Nov. 11 after he did not hear from the couple.

Officers went to the couple's Flower Hill home, where they found 69-year-old Lucila Sham dead. Her wounded husband later recovered at a hospital.
