The owner and manger of a Long Island diner repeatedly failed to pay 13 employees, lied to them and threatened them when they tried to collect their pay, police and state officials said Wednesday.
Southampton Police said they arrested Princess Diner owner Richard Bivona and manager John Kalogeras, following a 35-count indictment that was filed in Suffolk County on Tuesday.
The investigation started when two employees reported not receiving proper wages, the police said. Bivona was initially charged with menacing for allegedly threatening a worker's relative.
A subsequent investigation by the town, the state Department of Labor and the Attorney General's office led to the broader indictment for failing to pay wages and not maintaining proper workers' comp coverage.
Bivona and Kalogeras face a litany of larceny charges, as well as charges related to record-keeping, wages, harassment and workers' comp insurance. Attorney information was not immediately available.
