Off-Duty NYPD Detective Accused of DWI, Assault

The 49-year-old officer, Harold Thomas, was charged with second-degree assault, DWI and resisting arrest, among other violations

A veteran off-duty NYPD detective was charged with driving while intoxicating and resisting arrest early Monday in Manhattan, authorities said.

The 49-year-old officer, Harold Thomas, was charged with second-degree assault, DWI, resisting arrest, obstructing government administration and refusal to take a breath test when he was stopped just after midnight.

Thomas was shot in the back and seriously wounded while vacationing in Florida last July. At the time, he had been with the NYPD 27 years and was assigned to the department's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Thomas was scheduled to be arraigned later Monday. Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available.
