Florida-Bound Delta Flight Returns to JFK After Oven Emits Smoke

A Delta flight bound for Tampa, Florida returned to Kennedy Airport Thursday after flight attendants reported an oven was smoking in the galley, authorities said.

Delta 2389 landed safely back at JFK at about 10:30 a.m., the FAA said.

Delta said flight attendants "briefly observed some smoke from an oven" and the crew decided to return to New York. The plane was inspected and left for Florida an hour later.

A woman on the plane who was tweeting at Delta about the travel disruption told NBC 4 New York that some of the passengers "smelled something funny" after takeoff.

The FAA said it is investigating.
