Death of Woman Found Burned in Queens Deemed Homicide

The death of a 28-year-old woman found badly burned in Queens has been officially deemed a homicide as police continue to search for the woman's husband, authorities said.

Police found the charred body of Miriam Velez-Samayoa inside a bathtub in her apartment on 90th Avenue in Jamaica Saturday while responding to a 911 call about a possible assault.

EMS responded and pronounced Velez-Samayoa dead at the scene.

Investigators say they are trying to find her husband, Carlos Leon, for questioning. Leon is also known as Carlos Alvarado.

The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death as police continue to investigate.
