A 24-year-old woman died and a 30-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound in the hospital after they were shot on a Newark, N.J., playground, authorities said.
Prosecutors say police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the playground on Hawthorne Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and found both victims had been shot.
The woman, Dejaa Edwards, was pronounced dead half an hour later at the hospital. The male victim, who has not been identified, was hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities believe the shooting was targeted.
