Jogger Spots Dead 4-Foot Alligator at New Jersey Park

A dead 4-foot alligator was pulled from a New Jersey park Tuesday morning after a jogger passing by noticed the reptile, authorities say.

Police say the alligator apparently was someone's pet; they say it was dumped near the lake at Weequahic Park.

"We have never had a similar experience or a report of a gator sighting in any of our county park’s waterways," Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. "Maybe the owner believed Weequahic Lake’s waters had some magical healing power."

The alligator’s remains were turned over to the Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey on Evergreen Street.
