Man Convicted of Beating Man to Death on NYC Sidewalk in ‘Heinous Attack' Caught on Video

A 36-year-old homeless man has been convicted of manslaughter in the beating death of a 57-year-old man left for dead on a city sidewalk, prosecutors said Thursday.

After a three-week bench trial, a judge found Danthony Horton guilty in the May 2016 slaying of Ricardo Cruz, who was knocked to the ground and left unconscious on a Far Rockaway street. Two men intervened and fought with Horton until he left, prosecutors say.

They propped the badly injured Cruz up against a store grate and went on their way.

Moments later, Horton came back and kicked Cruz in the head over and over again, then left him to die on the sidewalk. It was all caught on surveillance cameras, officials said.

Horton, who was arrested two blocks from the scene, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced later this month.
