A 44-year-old Long Island dad was arrested after police say he left his 1-year-old son alone in his apartment.
Suffolk County police say officers responded to the Medford home after a 911 call about a baby crying.
The officers suspected the apartment was empty and forced their way inside, finding the boy in a crib, wearing a dirty diaper and crying.
An officer changed the baby's diaper and comforted him until the boy's mother, who is no longer with the father, arrived to get him.
Police say the father came home about 40 minutes later and was arrested. He was supposed to be taking care of the boy during a scheduled visitation.
He is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
