The bicyclist was attempting to cross a road in Southampton

Authorities say a man was driving under the influence when he struck and killed a bicyclist in Southampton Friday night.

Southampton police say 21-year-old Jesse Werner Steudte, of Southampton, was charged with DWI in the accident that left a 29-year-old Florida man dead.

Police say Neil S. Fyfe, of Jupiter, Florida, was attempting to cross County Road No. 39 around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by Steudte's Jeep. Fyfe was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital.

It was unclear if Steudte had an attorney. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
