Drunk Driver Kills Woman Crossing Bronx Street: Cops

Police say they have arrested and charged a driver with aggravated DWI in connection with the death of a 32-year-old woman who was struck and killed while crossing a Bronx street Saturday.

Nydja Herring was walking across East Tremont Avenue in Parkchester at around 5:30 p.m. when she was allegedly hit by Augustus Jenkins, who was driving down the avenue.

Herring's family said she had left home to buy milk for their 2-year-old twins.

"I need her, the kids need her, and she's gone," said Kashif Mitchell, her husband.

Jenkins, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI. Police also say there were children riding with Jenkins during the crash.

Information on a lawyer for Jenkins was not immediately available.
