Police: DWI Driver Critically Injured Bicyclist

A bicyclist was struck and critically injured Saturday, and the driver of the car that hit him has been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, police said.

The 63-year-old driver was arrested after the collision in Wyandanch at about 1:30 a.m., according to Suffolk County police. The bicyclist, 36-year-old Ishmeil Thomas, was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was listed in critical condition.

It wasn't immediately clear if the driver had a lawyer.
