Cuomo, Other New York Officials Plan Visit to Troubled Puerto Rico

A group of New York public officials led by Gov. Andrew Cuomo is scheduled to travel to Puerto Rico for meetings on the island's economic crisis.

Cuomo cites the state's strong ties with Puerto Rico as one of the reasons for the roughly 24-hour trip starting Monday afternoon.

Among the officials going are New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez. They'll be joined by administration officials experienced in Medicaid redesign and fraud.

Cuomo says Monday they'll meet with local officials and push for federal action to help ease health care and economic strains on the island.
