Cuomo Leads Paterson in Possible '10 Race: Poll

The poll shows 61 percent of voters favor Cuomo

A new poll shows Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is stretching his lead to 4-to-1 among voters in a potential matchup next year against Democratic Gov. David Paterson.

The Quinnipiac University poll shows more Democrats are also open to a primary between the two and Cuomo is maintaining strong support among blacks even when pitted against New York's first black governor.

The poll shows 61 percent of voters favor Cuomo while 15 percent favor Paterson. In June, Cuomo had a lead of 57 percent to 20 percent.

Cuomo has not said he will run for governor.

The poll questioned 708 registered Democrats from Aug. 10 to Aug. 13 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points for the Democratic primary questions.
