Couple Tried to Abandon “Uncontrollable” 6-Year-Old at Police Station: Cops

Duo charged with endangering the welfare of a child

A New York City couple has been arrested for trying to leave their 6-year-old daughter at a police precinct, authorities say.

Court papers say Annette Gerhardt took the girl to a Staten Island police precinct on Friday. They say she told police the girl was "uncontrollable.''

The papers allege the girl's father, Gerardo Santiago, who had been waiting in the car, told police Gerhardt was just trying to scare the girl and teach her a lesson. The couple was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

The Staten Island district attorney's office said the couple was arraigned on Saturday and released on their own recognizance. They're due in court on March 25.

Gerhardt's lawyer, Matthew Blum, said his client had no intention of abandoning the girl.
