The ex-boyfriend of an off-duty Rikers correction officer found shot to death in her car in Brooklyn, steps from her mother's house, earlier this month is in custody, law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC 4 New York.

The New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force led by U.S. Marshals and the NYPD apprehended Keon Richmond Wednesday after he was found hiding in a basement closet in a Brooklyn home, the sources said.

The sources said Richmond complied with arresting officers; he is also wanted in connection with an arson involving another former girlfriend's vehicle.

Alastasia Bryan, known as Stacey, was on her way to work Dec. 4 when a man came up and fired into the vehicle. Police said she was shot multiple times in the head and torso, and pronounced dead at the scene.

She had only been on the job a month when she was gunned down. Police have said they believe she was targeted, but no motive was released.

In video footage released last week, authorities said a suspect could be seen walking up to the 25-year-old woman's car and firing multiple shots into the driver's side window. The suspect then fled westbound on Avenue L, to a gold or tan-colored four-door Hyundai Elantra sedan.
