A Jersey City man is clinging to life after being struck by a pickup truck, and police are seeking the public's help to locate the driver who sped away from the scene.
Surveillance video released Wednesday by Jersey City police shows 51-year-old Ricardo Torres in a crosswalk when a black Ford pickup truck with a silver toolbox in the bed slams into him and keeps going.
The driver accelerated and swerved to dislodge the victim from the vehicle, police said. The crash happened Saturday afternoon at an intersection several blocks from the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.
Police estimate the vehicle was traveling 35 to 40 mph in an area where the speed limit is 25 mph.
Torres is in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center.
