Cop Shoots Man Caught Hurling Brick Through Squad Car Windows

Officer injures head, left hand when fracas ensues

Police shot and wounded a man caught hurling a brick the size of a cobblestone through the windows of a marked squad car, authorities said.

An on-duty cop got reports of a man seen smashing several windows of a marked car outside Mounted Police headquarters in Brooklyn just before 5 a.m. Friday. The officer approached the suspect, identified himself as a cop and a struggle ensued, the NYPD said.

The officer injured his head and hand in the fracas, and he was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The suspect was shot once in the left shoulder and taken to Lutheran Hospital, where he, too, was listed in stable condition.

Cops aren't sure what prompted the suspect to vandalize the squad car and the investigation is ongoing.

Charges against the unidentified suspect are pending.
