NJ Woman Puts Cocaine in Boyfriend's Dinner

Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a northern New Jersey woman who allegedly laced her boyfriend's dinner with cocaine.

Twenty-nine-year-old Monica L. Cookman of South Bound Brook also faces reckless endangerment and drug possession charges. She was being held Wednesday in the Somerset County Jail on $30,000 bail, and it was not known if she had retained a lawyer.

County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano says the victim told police that when he arrived home Friday, Cookman told him she was making him dinner. He initially declined, saying he wasn't hungry, but relented after Cookman insisted they eat together.

The victim said the food didn't taste right to him, and his throat soon went numb and his heart rate accelerated. He then reported the incident to South Bound Brook police.
