Cops to Charge Suspected Serial Killer in 6 Slayings

Police said they are charging a man suspected of killing at least six people and burying their bodies behind a Connecticut shopping center.

In May, multiple sources told NBC Connecticut that William Devin Howell, a 45-year-old drifter with a lengthy criminal record, was suspected of killing several people.

Friday morning, police said they were serving Howell with an arrest warrant, charging him in the deaths of six victims found in a swamp behind a shopping center in New Britain.

Howell was to be charged with three counts of capital felony, three counts of felony murder and three counts of murder, according to police.

He is currently serving a 15-year sentence at Garner Correctional Institution for manslaughter in connection with the death of Wethersfield resident Nilsa Arizmendi, whose remains were also found behind the New Britain shopping center.

Police have been investigating the case since 2007, when a hunter made the grisly discovery, finding several sets of human remains.

Police have identified the victims as Diane Cusack, 55; Mary Jane Menard, 40; Joyvaline Martinez, 24; Melanie Camilini, who was 29 years old when she disappeared; and Danny Lee Whistnant, 44, of New Britain.

Howell will be arraigned in New Britain Superior Court at 2 p.m. on Friday.
