Coney Island will have one less attraction on the boardwalk this summer.
Lola Star's Dreamland Roller Rink, which just opened in the summer of 2008, will not kick off its 2010 season on Memorial Day weekend because the landlord would not renew their lease, reported the Daily News.
"To my surprise, I just found out that the owners of the building have decided not to allow Dreamland Roller Rink to continue illuminating their space with roller skating bliss," owner Dianna Carlin, whose alter ego is Lola Starr wrote on the rink's website. "It is a shame not only for myself and the business I’ve built there, but also for the Coney Island and Roller Skating communities."
The building's landlord Taconic Investment Partners decided to close the rink due to increasing insurance costs.
"We were happy to be part of Dreamland Roller Rink for the past two years, and unfortunately because of the liability we can't do that this year," Taconic spokesman Pete Krokondelas told The News. Krokondelas also said the building will stay vacant this summer.
According to The News, a skater sued Dreamland Roller Rink after they fell last year.
Carlin was looking forward to the rink's third season where she planned to hold theme parties and morning yoga exercises, reported The News. For now she can be seen this summer at her Lola Star Boutique on the boardwalk and at her new surf shop located in the Stillwell Ave. Subway Station.

As for the rink's future, Carlin's hoping to find a permanent venue elsewhere in Brooklyn.
"I want to build a bigger, more fabulous rink with a huge wooden skating floor, glamorous bathrooms, a cute snack bar, and a rockin’ skate boutique in a space which can be open year round," said Carlin on the website.
