Dramatic Shift in Temperatures Expected This Weekend as Mercury Forecast to Sink Well Below Average

Tri-state residents basking in sun-fueled temperatures in the 60s and 70s this week are in for a cruel awakening as Storm Team 4 forecasts weekend temperature to plummet to the 50s, well below the average temperature in the city for this time of year.

Temperatures are expected to nose-dive overnight following a bright, breezy Friday with highs near 70 in the city. Storm Team 4 says it's only expected to reach the 30s north and west of the city, leading to weekend temperatures that aren't expected to cross the 55-degree mark.

Skies are expected to be sunny through most of the weekend amid a nice breeze. A stray sprinkle or flurry is possible north and west of the city Sunday, which will be the coldest day of the weekend as Storm Team 4 forecasts a high of 51 degrees.

The average high for Oct. 17 and 18 in the city is 62 degrees.

A freeze watch was issued overnight Saturday into Sunday for several counties in upstate New York and northern New Jersey.

The weather improves next week. After a chilly start to Monday with temperatures still in the low 50s, the mercury rebounds to the mid-60s Tuesday and approaches the 70-degree mark by mid-week, according to Storm Team 4.
