Cocaine Disguised as Canned Veggies Nabbed at Liberty

A total of six cans containing 4.3 pounds of cocaine were seized

Officers at Newark Liberty International Airport said they arrested a women  who was carrying six cans of vegetables that were actually filled with cocaine.

The woman, 18-year-old U.S. citizen Yaneira Perdomo, had arrived from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Dec. 24th. 

According to police, her bag was selected for inspection, and that’s when two cans of mixed vegetables, two cans of coconut, and two cans of corn were found packed inside.

 After noticing the unusual heaviness of the cans, officers opened the items which revealed a sealed plastic container.  The container was probed producing a white powdery substance which field tested positive for cocaine, police said.
 
A total of six cans containing 4.3 pounds of cocaine were seized.  The cocaine has a street value of over $200,000. 

Perdomo was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for federal prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark.
