City Parks to Celebrate MLK Day

City, state and local government buildings are closed

The nation will pause to remember the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday -- a national holiday.

Federal, state and city offices will be closed -- including post offices and courts. Around New York City, alternate site of the street parking rules are in effect.

At City parks and recreation centers, King's memory will be celebrated with speical programs including poetery readings and lessons on how to recycle.

Bronx:

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parks’ GreenApple Corps will lead event at Bronx Junior High School 22 (270 E. 167th Street): Team building, lessons on composting and recycling, trees, etc.

12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Martin Luther King, Jr and Inaugural Celebration at Owen Dolen Recreation Center

1p.m. to 3 p.m. Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr at Hunts Point Recreation Center


Brooklyn:
 

12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Martin Luther King, Jr Celebration at Brownsville Recreation Center

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. at Von King Cultural Arts Center

Manhattan:

9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Parks’ GreenApple Corps will lead service-learning projects in Seward Park: help restore street tree pits, learn about raptors, go on a guided nature tour, learn about recycling and composting, arts and    crafts, and more! 
           
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. MLK Pool Tournament at Hamilton Fish Recreation Center
 

6 p.m. to 7 p.m. “If I Were King” Poetry event at Pelham Fritz Recreation Center
