Young Brother, Sister Fall Out Third-Story NJ Window While Waving to Friend

Police say the children fell out of the window in North Bergen

A 4-year-old boy and his 5-year-old sister were seriously hurt when they climbed into a window in their New Jersey apartment bedroom to wave hello to a friend on the street and the screen gave way, sending them falling three stories, police said.

The little boy was in critical condition and his sister was listed as guarded but stable after they fell out of the window at a building on Kennedy Street East in North Bergen on Tuesday, police said.

Neighbors heard the commotion as a woman rushed out of the building screaming and crying.

"I hear a noise and people running, and so I look -- I see two small kids on the floor," said witness Christine Saoud.

"They looked small. They weren't moving," said Maya Saoud.

Neighbors said none of the windows in the modest condo building have child guards.

The children were taken to Jersey City Medical Center.
