  • A woman dropping off an 8-year-old boy accidentally struck and killed him while trying to parallel park, the NYPD says
  • Witnesses say the car "just hit him out of nowhere"
  • Police say there doesn't appear to be criminality in the accident

An 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by a driver trying to park her minivan just after dropping him off in the Bronx Monday evening, police say.

Police said a woman had just dropped off Cellou Diallo on 215th Street in Olinville and was trying to parallel park when she somehow lost control, hitting the boy on the sidewalk and pinning him under the front wheel.

"I saw the little boy, he was just standing there and the car was parking, and it just hit him, it just hit him out of nowhere," said a witness.

"I heard the lady saying, 'I just killed my neighbor child,'" the witness said.

The boy was pronounced dead by paramedics. The driver, the child's neighbor, remained on the scene.

Police say at this point there does not appear to be any criminality in the accident.
