A former Rutgers University student has been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography from an apartment he shared with his parents.
A state grand jury handed up an indictment against Hongyu Wang on Monday.
The 21-year-old Wang, of Piscataway, is charged with possessing and distributing child pornography, evidence tampering and attempted hindering apprehension. The distribution charge carries a five-to-10-year sentence.
Acting Attorney General John Hoffman says state police units investigating child pornography online traced files to a computer at Rutgers that allegedly belonged to Wang. A search of his computer last year revealed he was sharing more than 200 videos with other users.
Wang has been expelled by Rutgers. His attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
