Babysitter Arrested After Child Hit by Falling Bed While Home Alone Dies

The babysitter who allegedly left four toddlers alone in a New Jersey home has been arrested on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges after one of them died after a bed fell on her, prosecutors say.

Police found 4-year-old Naira Bennett unconscious when they responded to the home on North Munn Avenue in Newark Wednesday morning. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Bennett and three other very young children had been home alone at the time of the accident, authorities say.

Their babysitter, Sakita Covington, was later arrested. Police say it wasn't clear how long the children had been left alone.

Covington is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility. It wasn't clear if she had an attorney.
