Westchester School District Blames Students in Teacher Sex Abuse Case

The Chappaqua Central School District denies any responsibility in the alleged incidents between 2011 and last year

An elite Westchester school district says four students who've accused a former teacher of sexual abuse are partly to blame for any harm they've suffered.

The Chappaqua Central School District denies any responsibility in the alleged incidents between 2011 and last year.

According to the Journal News, the district says in court papers that the former Horace Greeley High School students showed "carelessness" and "recklessness."

The students' lawyer filed a court response calling the district's claims "dreck." He declined further comment.

The students say they were forced to participate in sex and drinking games. They were all 15 at the time.

The teacher, Christopher Schraufnagel, resigned last fall. He's pleaded not guilty.

Attorneys for the defendant and the district didn't respond to comment requests.
