Robbers Stole $2K, Shoes off the Feet of Man Near Central Park: NYPD

Police are looking for a pair of armed robbers who stole a cellphone, $2,000 cash and the shoes off the feet of a man outside Central Park early Thursday morning.

The two men brandished a handgun and robbed the 31-year-old man at West 70th Street and Central Park West at about 3:30 a.m., according to the NYPD.

The thieves took the man’s cash, his phone and the Air Jordan shoes he was wearing before taking off.

The robbery is not thought to be connected to a series of other robberies in the park earlier in the week. Police have arrested four people in those cases

The robbery is the third in or near the park this week.

Residents of the neighborhood were stunned to hear about the robbery.

"We've been living here the last 10 years and you would never think that this would happen in this neighborhood," said Upper West Side resident Guy Penard.

No arrests have been made in any of the robberies.

Crime in Central Park is down 2.4 percent from a year ago, according to the NYPD.
