Caroline Kennedy Kisses Shelley Silver's Ring

Caroline Kennedy has made overtures to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver about Hillary Clinton's soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat, but the Albany powerbroker is said to be cool to the idea.

"I think she is warming to the idea, partially because the family wants it so much," a source told the Daily News. "It's definitely a sign that she's more interested than she has been."

Kennedy called the Democratic leader on either Tuesday or Wednesday but he was out of town, a source told the News.  The two are expected to speak today.

But the daughter of JFK may find Shelly a tough sell. The enigmatic Democrat has shown in many battles with Mayor Michael Bloomberg that he is not afraid to stare down a high-profile public figure.  According to the News, Silver may be leaning toward Reps. Jerrold Nadler or Carolyn Maloney whose congressional distracts overlap with Silver's.  Silver also considers State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, another candidate for Hillary's seat, a "constituent," according to the News.

Kennedy has already spoken with state Controller Thomas DiNapoli about the seat, but the decision is the sole discretion of Gov. David Paterson, whom Kennedy has also spoken with about the seat.
