Card Shop Owner Busted for Selling Fireworks: Police

With Fourth of July celebrations a week away, police in Long Island charged three people with illegally selling fireworks from a stationary store.

An anonymous tip on Saturday led officers to the Card Smart store on Route 112 in Port Jeff Station, where they found 65 boxes of fireworks on display, Suffolk County police said.

The fireworks, with such brand names as Saturn Missiles, Big Bad Bucket and Tornado Alley, were marked with price tags and openly displayed for sale in the front of the store, investigators said.

The store owner, Ketan Shah, 46, of Hicksville, and his employees, Vijaykumar Patel, 30 of Elmhurst, and Nancy Sapienza, 65, of Ridge, were charged with unlawfully dealing with fireworks and dangerous fireworks.

No information was available as to whether they had obtained lawyers who could comment on the charges.
