Car Plows Through Garment Shop, Hits Customer

The driver was attempting to back up when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, she told police

A driver plowed through the front of a store on the Lower East Side Thursday afternoon, hitting a 23-year-old customer walking out of the shop and injuring her, police said.

The 38-year-old driver told police she was attempting to back up in front of A. Feibusch Garments store at 27 Allen St. just after 12:30 p.m. when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.

She crashed through the front of the store, breaking the glass.

The woman walking out of the store was struck and knocked into the window, police said. She suffered an injury to the leg and was taken to Bellevue Hospital

The driver was arrested, and charges are pending, police said.
