90-Year-Old Injured After Car Plunges Off Edge in Kingston

The car plunged to the tracks nose-first and was found by crews with the roof leaning against the tunnel wall in an upright position

Police in upstate New York say a 90-year-old man suffered injuries when his car plunged over the edge of an abandoned railroad tunnel.

The Kingston Police Department says Robert Gorsline was driving northeast in Kingston when he crashed into the rear of 38-year-old Florence Schoonmaker's car while she was stopped at a stop sign. Police say Gorsline then continued through the intersection, off the road and over the edge of the rail tunnel.

The car plunged to the tracks nose-first and was found by crews with the roof leaning against the tunnel wall in an upright position. Firefighters were able to enter the vehicle and extract Gorsline, who was taken to an area hospital for neck and back injuries.

Schoomaker wasn't injured. The investigation is ongoing.
