Construction workers digging with a backhoe have unearthed a Civil War-era cannonball on Governors Island.
A spokeswoman for the Trust for Governors Island told the New York Post the 350-pound, 12-inch round projectile was discovered near the ferry landing Thursday morning.
Police said the NYPD bomb squad deemed the cannonball safe.
It was removed for eventual display.
