14-Year-Old Boy Charged With Felony Murder in Shooting of Cab Driver in New Jersey

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on a felony murder charge in the death of a 45-year-old livery cab driver, who was found shot in Newark over the summer.

The teenager also faces charges of conspiracy, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon. Authorities are not releasing the boy's name because of his age.

Rodrigo Berru, 45, was found shot at 9:45 p.m. Aug. 21 on Frelinghuysen Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. A passerby called police.

Berru, who worked for Classic Taxi, was pronounced dead two minutes after authorities arrived.

The teenager charged in his death also faces charges in a separate incident five days earlier. In that case, he and another 14-year-old boy are charged with conspiracy and carjacking.

They have both been remanded to the Essex County Youth House.
