2 Firefighters, 2 Others Injured in Bushwick Fire

FDNY says all injuries are minor.

Two firefighters and two others were injured in a fire that ripped through a Bushwick apartment building Tuesday morning, where some residents were rescued through windows.

The FDNY said all the injuries were minor, but that residents were "panicked" to get out of the three-story building on Himrod Street.

Neighbors helped each other out, and firefighter Michael Ober rescued a woman and her young son into the bucket atop a ladder truck.

"When I grabbed him, he held on," Ober said. "Once I got them into the bucket, I sat them down."

The local firehouse is about six doors down from the building that caught fire; in addition to calling 911, neighbors ran to the firehouse and banged on the door to alert rescuers to the blaze.

"We were on the scene immediately," said a deputy assistant chief

The initial call for the fire came in at 8:20 a.m. and the fire went to three alarms about 30 minutes later. The flames spread to other buildings, but the fire was brought under control by 9:45 a.m.
