Police are investigating a series of late-night home burglaries in several Long Island communities, most of which took place while residents were asleep.
Suffolk County police say the burglaries have been in Lindenhurst, Deer Park, West Babylon and North Babylon over the last two months.
In some cases, the residents woke up and the intruder or intruders fled. No injuries have been reported.
Police urge residents to be extra vigilant in ensuring that all doors and windows are securely closed and home alarm systems activated at night.
Additional marked and unmarked patrol units have been deployed in the areas.
Residents are advised to call 911 immediately to report any suspicious circumstances, vehicles or individuals.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
