Bullets Fly at Popular Chelsea Diner; 1 Dead

Gunman on the loose

One man was killed -- shot twice in the back of the head and three times in the back -- when a torrent of gunshots cracked the early morning calm inside a popular Chelsea eatery, authorities said.

The shots inside Good Stuff Diner on 14th Street, a primary spot for party-goers to hit up once they leave the nearby clubs, rang out just before 5 a.m. Saturday. Cops found an unidentified man in his 30s sprawled on the floor of the diner; he was unconscious and unresponsive. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Raj Gobal, who was at work across the street at 7-Eleven, described a chaotic scene outside the diner.

"A woman ran in screaming, 'I need the phone, someone's been shot!'" Gobal told the Daily News. "I saw people run out and there was panic outside."

"The diner is always busy, and there's a fight once a month, just drunk people coming from bars," he added. "But nothing like this."

Workers told The New York Post the shooter had heated words with the victim before opening fire.

Cops are still looking for the gunman. The investigation is ongoing.
