Brush Fire Spurs Evacuations in New Jersey

Authorities say the evacuation of homes in Old Bridge was ordered Sunday morning "as a precaution''

Several homes in Old Bridge Township have been evacuated as firefighters battle a growing brush fire in New Jersey.

Authorities say the evacuation of homes near Washington Avenue and Joseph Court was ordered Sunday morning "as a precaution.'' They say no homes have been damaged and no injuries have been reported.

The brush fire was first reported around 8 a.m. Sunday. It initially was located deep in the woods, but eventually spread toward the residential areas.

Cheesequake State Park was also evacuated and closed due to the growing fire, while some nearby roadways were also closed.

Dozens of firefighters are said to be battling the blaze.
