Broome County Woman Admits to Accidentally Smothering 6-Month-Old Baby

A 41-year-old woman admits she accidentally smothered her baby while sleeping next to her on an air mattress while under the influence of drugs.

Danielle Lefay of Endicott pleaded guilty in Broome County Court on Friday to criminally negligent homicide. Prosecutors say she asphyxiated her 6-month-old daughter Vianna Alexia Lefay after rolling on top of her while sleeping in their apartment in January 2015.

Police say Lefay took a mix of prescription and non-prescription drugs along with marijuana before going to sleep. Her roommates found the baby unresponsive in the morning and called 911.

Lefay will be sentenced on Jan. 20.
