Homeless Man Arrested in Brooklyn Subway Rape Attempt

Police arrested a 23-year-old homeless man who allegedly tried to rape a woman after offering to help her carry her bags up the stairs at a Brooklyn subway station last week.

Demetrius Morales was charged overnight with attempted rape, forcible touching and third-degree sexual abuse in connection with the alleged assault at the Bedford Avenue and Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights March 14.

Police had said the 21-year-old victim got off the subway with several bags at that stop, and when the suspect saw her struggling with them, he offered to help carry them up the stairs.

The woman accepted the offer and the suspect began helping her carry the bags up to the street. While the two were hauling the bags up the stairs, police say the suspect tried to rape the woman.

The victim screamed and the suspect fled, police say.

It wasn't clear if Morales had an attorney.
