A jury has deadlocked on charges in a trial of a man accused of fatally stabbing a New York City student on the Cornell University campus last summer.

The 23-year-old Nagee Green was being tried for assaulting and injuring one Ithaca College student, and fatally stabbing another, 19-year-old Anthony Nazaire of Brooklyn, a sophomore at the time majoring in business administration.

The Tompkins County Court jury on Monday convicted Green, of Freeville, on an assault charge for injuring the one student during a fight on the Cornell University campus last Aug. 28.

Prosecutors say during the fight Green fatally stabbed Nazaire. The jury deadlocked on murder and manslaughter charges for Nazaire's death.

The judge has scheduled a conference next month with prosecutors and Green's defense attorneys to determine whether to hold another trial.

Witnesses testified that the fight started outside a fraternity-sponsored party at the Cornell student union when Nazaire's friend bumped into a woman.

Relatives of Nazaire, who grew up in Flatbush, told News 4 at the time he was an honors student and had a full scholarship to Ithaca College. He graduated from Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School and was an executive board member of Brothers4Brothers, an Ithaca College student organization dedicated to empowering men of color on the campus.
