One Woman Killed, Another Wounded in Brooklyn Home Shooting

A 63-year-old woman died and a younger female relative was wounded after they were shot while possibly trying to evict a male family member from their home in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC 4 New York.

The women were shot shortly before 10 a.m. in a building on East 25th Street about five blocks from Brooklyn College.

The older woman was shot in the chest and died at the hospital; the younger woman, who is 37, suffered a graze wound to the head and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York.

Law enforcement sources identified the male relative suspected of shooting them as the older woman's 70-year-old brother and said he is in police custody.

Neighbor Roslyn Hunter was home doing her taxes at the time of the shooting, but said she didn't hear the gunfire. She described the older victim as "quiet."

Hunter also said the male relative lived in the basement.

The investigation is ongoing.
