There's a Second Amendment battle brewing in Sheepshead Bay, where a Revolutionary War buff is it odds with cops over his flintlock rifle.
Michael Littlejohn recently bought an $825 replica of a flintlock rifle from a Tennessee blacksmith. And he likely could've have kept it in his home without drawing anyone's notice, except he left behind the receipt in a Staples office supply store. A call was made to the police and suddenly Littlejohn found himself in the crosshairs of New York's finest.
"This is the last legal gun that you can have without registration in New York," Littlejohn told the New York Daily News. "And yet Mayor Bloomberg is driven crazy by my flintlock gun - the one that won the American Revolution."
Littlejohn insists his rifle is kosher because New York law doesn't require registration of any firearms that must have the gunpowder and bullets loaded separately. To say nothing of the fact that he owns neither gun powder or bullets.
According to Littlejohn's former lawyer, the lead detective has been told by "higher-ups" to pursue the case. Cops say they're willing to let the whole thing go if only Littlejohn would acquiesce and register the rifle.
Not a chance, says Littlejohn, who is willing to go to the mattresses -- or at least court - -for his right to keep and bear old school arms.
